About Laos

Laos is a landlocked, developing country in the heart of South East Asia. It is surrounded by Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, and China. The country has a relatively small population of 6 million consisting of several ethnic minority groups. Though it is not wealthy economically, Laos is abundantly rich in culture and traditions. Its people are very friendly and hospitable.

The country’s tropical climate and affordable accommodations make Laos the ideal winter getaway.  In comparison to neighbouring countries, Laos is the least touched by commercialisation.  Laos is also the perfect destination for those who want to avoid overcrowded tourist hotspots like those of neighbouring countries, but who still want to get an eyeful of the natural beauties of the region.  For the budget minded tourist, Laos is a great place to mingle among the friendly locals and experience the authenticity of the South East Asian lifestyle.

Laotian cuisine is known for its sticky rice and spicy foods.  Tam mak houng, a spicy papaya salad, is a Laotian favourite. Tourists can enjoy organic, freshly picked fruits which are available just about everywhere.  Mangos, bananas, papayas, coconuts are readily available for little money or even for free as long as one can pick them from the trees on which they grow.  For those with more exotic taste buds, you can enjoy the most exotic fruits Asia has to offer such as tamarind, longan, rambutan, and much more.

Laos offers several breath-taking landscapes: from mountains to valleys, rain forests to calm rivers, natural lakes, and spectacular waterfalls.
